Easily swayed

Sometimes I choose an item of food just because it looks pretty.

I am not too proud to admit that I bought these sardines because I liked the picture on the box.

I know it makes me a bit of a marketing man's dream, some might say it even makes me a bit of a sucker.

It could be said that it makes me shallow. Oh, and I really like the typeface too.

But putting something lovely on the pantry shelf sort of makes my day.

And I always eat the food eventually. The sardines had been there some time. It's a good job tinned food comes with such a long sell by date.

As I wrote this post I had a nagging feeling that I had seen a picture of sardines on another blog at some point. So I did a little brain racking and discovered that I am in Domesticali's most excellent company, twice. It seems the world of sardine packaging offers no end of creative possibilities.

I think I am guilty of buying pretty water bottles! And maybe that's worse because water is basically water. I don't blame you for loving this sardine box... so nicely done.

I too am a sucker for pretty packaging....and always thinking of my omega 3's but rarely acting upon it.

Do you grill?

I think I would have bought that box too although I can't imagine I would have eaten the sardines.

I'm guilty over sardine tin must-buys too ;)

At least in this case, I feel the contents live up to the packaging- I buy those tins of sardines and love them!

I, too, am a sucker for certain packaging and marketing. I try to make myself feel better by telling myself that I at least I *know* I'm falling for the hype, but...

That is a very handsome, old-fashioned typeface, but I don't think I would buy sardines just to get ahold of it! I applaud your total dedication to aesthetics, though.

Nigella's pantry is full of packaging like this. And where do people get those lovely tins from that they put plants in later?

I like those piccanti sardines, they disappeared from Waitrose for ages - but I also fell for that very lovely pilchard tin and found them very tasteless. (Of course, if you don't like pilchards that might be an advantage!)

Lucille, those lovely big olive tins that you put plants ... They're dumped on the pavement outside my local deli several times a week, with the bin bags. But you have to be quick as they're very much in demand.

I do that myself, I too am a complete sucker for a nice box or a spot of fancy text on a packet. But if something brings us a scoop of pleasure, and brightens our days then why not?

Hey, we might be marketers' dreams, but at least we've had our Omega 3s!!
Viva la interesting fish packaging.

Those sardines really did have a wonderful packaging design. When I do my normal, everyday shopping for groceries and other staples, I am usually struck by just how bland the packaging is.

Perhaps all that blah-dom design is just set in place to allow the striking graphics to have even more impact.

Best wishes. I do enjoy reading your posts.

A friend once brought me a gorgeous tin of sardines from Portugal and made me promise never to open them. I never have, they are well past their sell by date but still beautiful.

I used to jokingly tell my husband that I'd even buy tools if they put flowers on them. Then one day he brought home the most adorable little hammer painted with beautiful florals. I keep it handy for those little nailing jobs like hanging picture frames and such.

What a pretty box. My cupboard has some harissa paste, some mexican baking powder, some rose water and a lot of tomato puree all bought because I loved the packaging. I think It is ok. Or, that I have to make a very strange cocktail to use it all up.
