Cake days and holidays

Although I awoke at 6am this morning, it was the result of birdsong, not electronics and the waking was accompanied by the rather blissful thought of "no school." Oh my, I love the holidays. In spite of the fact that I still have to carve the time to complete my work, a fact made possibly more difficult by those 2 extra people at home but I am still filled with that blissful feeling of being off timetable.

Days that start gently and wind along, a bit of this, a bit of that. Nowhere to be, no plans in hand. No clocks to be watched. Breakfast is late and lunch is whenever. Life in the slow lane.

And these days they even do their own baking.

Tilly is becoming quite the whiz in the kitchen.

Sometimes she tidies up afterwards too.

Well, in a fashion. And I am happy enough to wash the odd whisk in exchange for something sweet with my tea.

Lemon Meringue Cupcakes. From the excellent The Hummingbird Bakery Cake Days.

I did help with the boiling sugar/meringue part and we halved the frosting quantities just because we generally like a somewhat lower frosting to cake ratio.

They look delicious!! In fact, I could eat one right now :) Aren't the holidays just the best? Nothing like that feeling when you first open your eyes in a morning and realise that you don't have to really be anywhere important in any great hurry, and you can sink into the pillows again - well, you can for a few more minutes at least until you hear little footsteps running down the landing!!

Toasted meringue on a cupcake - oh my goodness!

We are enjoying lazy starts too - and hearing the birds. Bliss!

Catching up your last few posts and saw what a wonderful basket you nabbed. Good on you getting there first.

You've summed up exactly why the school holidays are so fabulous and that's the lack of routine. I refused to feel like I should be doing anything today and just went with the flow. We ate picnic food and watched old movies with our girls. My blinking boss kept on sending me emails mind you which I just didn't reply to.

Enjoy the break.

I think what you composed made a ton of sense. However,
what about this? suppose you added a little information? I am not suggesting your content isn't good, however what if you added a post title to maybe grab a person's
attention? I mean Untitled is a little boring.
You might look at Yahoo's front page and see how they create article titles to get people to open the links. You might add a related video or a picture or two to grab people interested about everything've
written. In my opinion, it could make your posts a little bit more interesting.
