A sprint towards the finish line

The last few months have been filled and the last weeks in particular have been crammed to bursting.

Right now my days are filled with linen and Liberty.  Tissue paper and postage bags and weekends filled with fairs.

Interspersed, of course, with all the family stuff, that end of term flurry, Sports Day and Leaver Service.

Amongst all of the chaos there have been some wonderful moments and as I look back on the last year (because it would seem that the child within me is never quite able to move on from pacing myself according to the academic year) I feel a flutter of pride and happiness over some of my very own achievements.

In June I made time to attend the Not On The High Street partners meeting and I felt truly part of something.  It was very apparent that the majority of Not On The High Street businesses are run by women and it was incredibly empowering to be amongst all those creative, passionate and inspiring women.  Being in that room felt like a marvellous validation of my business, it made it feel so very real.  As I review my year I cannot quite believe how far I have come and, as a result of that, how much further I have set my sights.

Holly and Sophie, the founders of Not On The High Street, have written a business book.  I placed it on pre-order weeks ago, but then, to my delight, I received an unexpected signed copy.  So, I have a spare book to give away.  Let me tell you, it is a very good book.  There is plenty of excellent business advice and information but what strikes me in particular is that this is very much a book for women, the information is pertinent to both sexes but will particularly inspire women.  It will make you want to do things and tell you how to do them.

So what are you waiting for?  Do you have a kernel of an idea?  An itch that needs scratching?  Are you ready to jump in head first?  If you would like the opportunity to win a copy of Build a Business from Your Kitchen Table  , just leave me a comment on this post and I will pop the names in a hat.  You can tell me about your business dreams and wishes if you like or keep it quiet if you prefer.

And I have to tell you, that all of these pictures are taken on my very own kitchen table.  The place where I wrap my orders, feed my family, photograph products, help with homework, chat with friends and make wishes and dreams.

I will leave comments open until next Wednesday, 25th July.

Please can you enter me into the draw - I have very confused thoughts about making and selling but I guess basically I'd like to sell what I make and not spend anytime on promoting which I think is where I fall down.

Congratulations on making a successful business from what you make Rebecca(I love my Kindle case). I'm still trying to find a focus to what I do so this book sounds like it could offer good advice.

I will forever look to the academic year's beginning as well. Who would think to start anew in the depths of winter? Summer ends and it's time to get down to business.
Congratulations on being successful on Not on High Street.

How fortunate I feel to have read this post this evening. I am in the very early stages of preparing some sort of next life stage, making use of past experiences, in a way that will allow me to market some of my creations.

I would be delighted to have a copy of the book that you mention.

Meanwhile, I applaud you on your successes so far, and wish you many more in the future.
We're just in the middle of relocating purely so I can kick start my own (second) business. A book like this would be fab to encourage us on the way, thanks for the chance to win!

Love the pictures!

I have so many ideas, it's narrowing them down to what I can actually achieve. I would love to be able to dabble in each one, but need to find the right focus and at least start with one..

I am so happy for you that your business has taken off. It is quite an accomplishment and one of which you should be proud. Congrats!

i'd like to be in with a chance please.
i make and sell through etsy and local fairs but still feel like i'm playing at it rather than running a business, which is silly really as the tax man thinks it's a business ;)

As someone who has finally seen your products (and you!) in person, and felt pretty inspired by the encounter to 'just get out there and do it', I definitely need to be included in the draw so that I can figure out just what to get out there and do!!

Else.

Huge congratulations - you've achieved this year what I had intended to do but have not yet managed. Perhaps I should think in terms of the next academic year :-) That book does sound very useful indeed.

I don't need the book, so don't enter me in the draw. I just wanted to encourage you in your own business ventures because your products are so beautiful. As is your blog.

I am so pleased to see how well things have gone for you this year - there's something truly exciting about watching someone's dreams turning into reality.
In fact, if I think about it, my ideal business would be as a cheerleader for crafters with previously hidden talents. Wonder if there's really a business to be made in that....
