Another year

I know that I am not the only one to still mark the passing of the years according to the school calendar.

September bustles in with new shoes, freshly sharpened pencils and eager resolutions. It is of course infectious. Today I began to dust and tidy, folding away the summer, preparing for a new season. My head full of plans and thoughts.

I cannot help but feel that August raced by all too quickly but as with the arrival of every new season I have that feeling of anticipation, looking forward to all the good things each new season brings. Autumn is certainly a rich season, blackberries and shiny conkers, cool evenings and the first smells of wood smoke drifting through the village, golden sunshine overhead and damp moss underfoot.

As always I saw the children back to school with an ache in my heart, all too aware of their growing independence, soon I will adjust once more to the quiet of my days and I will rejoice in my peace and solitude but it takes a little while to appreciate the stillness of the house once more. The house and I need to adjust again, at first we miss the noise and chaos of the summer days.

You're right, August did shoot past. My two were back to school yesterday and I am finding the stillness in the house during the day quite odd.

Such. Beautiful. Photos. I love September and I'm so glad to see it's arrival. Especially with fresh, new pencils. ;-)

This is the first year of "real" school for us, and he is so excited. But I am a little more nervous, though I'll admit excited for my days of quiet around the house.

Fabulous photos .. and yes, where did August go!
After the 'freedom' of the summer hols I'm practically dreading the constraints and of the new school term with the rigid time table, all the associated clubs and must do activities, letters & forms etc. I shall miss my son immensely next week and ironically I never disliked school as a child ... but I do now.

We're starting on Monday, and to me it feels as much as a beginning as it does for them... I've got so many plans and ideas...

I was actually happy that August rushed by quickly, it was over 100 nearly every day here! I'm looking forward to cooler temps and cozy evenings as the nights draw in. I love Fall :)

NoNoNoNo! Summer isn't over! LALALALA! I'm not listening...

Actually I am acutely aware that school time is looming, but I'm making lesson plans.

And yes, I still consider September as "New Years".

I always, too, have the same feeling when the holidays are over, the house is so very quiet again and it always needs some time until I´m happy again with my own routine, the lonely days and the silent moments and hours. But one thing I still kept from my childhood and this is that a new year always starts in autumn for me. I so much loved the starting of the school days with all those pretty new books, exercise-books and pencils and always had big dreams of starting fresh and with the best intentions. It was also the time where we had to wear stockings again instead of barefoots in sandals, where the leaves are prettily rustle when passing through them, where it´s absolutely exciting to jump into puddles with your new rubber boots on rainy days. And then to come home, get a nice cup of hot chocolate, snuggle up on the sofa and read your favorit childrens book. Autumn is always again so very full of promises for me, such a great time for discovering something new and enjoying your old habits.
