Sweater love

The Hourglass Sweater from Last Minute Knitted Gifts is finished. I used entirely the wrong yarn and had to mess about a bit to get gauge but I love it all the same. The first time I have made a sweater in the round and I must say I am quite converted. I shall have to look into translating future patterns to be knit this way, it was lovely not to have to seam and as for the sleeves, heaven. No seams and raglan shaping have made for beautifully fitting sleeves.

The pattern is really good, the shaping and neckline are so flattering.

I used Artesano Alpaca yarn which is much lighter than the prescribed Cash Iroha but lovely to wear. I will certainly make another, in fact it is all that I can do to stop myself making another one immediately, my wardrobe would only be richer for one in each colour.

The other new technique for me was the turned hems, I love these, so neat. I got creative on the sleeves and used cream for the underside.

I do however, have a current unhealthy obsession with this pattern. Has anyone seen a real one? I have been googling like mad but to know avail. I really love it, I think about it in the middle of the night, I even rather like the green of the one in the pattern picture. However, I costed it in my local yarn shop and it is about ninety pounds! Of course it is sort of a coat.... but still, it is a lot, I think I would like someone else to knit it first, so please if you see one out there do tell me.

I love this sweater! It looks so soft and comfortable...and my favorite thing is that little bit of cream at the cuff! I have been dying to try a sweater. I'm like you--circular needles are so much nicer because I'm a terrible seam sewer. Good luck on finding that green sweater-- those cables are beautiful!

What a great sweater in my favorite neutral! I just love the way you made the turned sleeves in cream - so creative and such a nice professional touch. Just lovely. Oh, and as always, I find myself envying your backdrop.

Hourglass is beautiful. I made one once in grotty yarn and then killed it by accident but I loved making it. Your cuff hem is a great idea.
The cardigan looks nice, is it knit sideways? Jeanette on ebay has some Debbie Bliss yarns on sale so try there but I don't think it is in the green.

This looks wonderful! Very flattering. I'd love your opinion, if you'd like to share it - I have both this sweater and Nora's Inky Charcoal flare sweater, that you knit a while back, in my knitting queue. I can't decide which to knit first. How do you compare/contrast the two patterns? If you'd like, you can email me directly at knit1338ATyahooDOTcom

Thanks! :0)

I love your sweater! And I too love knitting in the round. I have a great baby sweater that is knitted with NO seams to sew. The first time I made that sweater, I was converted.
And the cream inner cuff really sets off the color and the shape of the sleeves. Exquisite.
Now I want to knit one, too!

Congrats on your hourglass, it looks just lovely on you. And that Ruby pattern! I hadn't seen it before, but I'm with you, it's to die for!

Your sweater looks great, and it is so cute with the skirt and boots you're wearing!
It's such a classic sweater. I never thought one could wear it with a flared skirt but you've proven me delightfully wrong. Of course one must have the boots too, otherwise it wouldn't have quite the edge :)

The jumper looks great - such a good fit and shape. Which Artesano Alpaca yarn did you use?

The cabled cardigan is beautiful but I suspect that it might be really heavy and pull out of shape a bit in DB CMA. Have a look at the Rainey Sisters blog - there's a heavily cabled cardigan there at the moment in a different style but their evaluation of it is useful. Maybe substituting the yarn for something slightly more springy would help?

Your new sweater is so lovely, especially with that cream bit.
I haven't seen the coat anywhere yet, but it is an intriguing pattern. I'll keep my eyes open, too. Do you know anyone who is already on Ravelry? Seems to be the place where one could find a knitter who did it. I would love to see more details of it, how are the sleeves set in, is it really so smooth everywhere as it appears to be?

I love the hourglass sweater. It looks great on you! I'm wondering if it would be a good use for some felted tweed that is staring reproachfully at me from the top of one of my yarn tubs. I love the look of Ruby, too, but share the concerns of other commenters that it might pull out of shape. Having said that, there are a lot of yarns that knit up well on 5mm needles, so you could go for something with a bit more bounce and resilience, maybe? (and possibly cheaper, too!)

Oh - and it doesn't seem to have shown up on Ravelry at all yet, btw...

Love the sweater and it looks great on you.I think that yarn is one of my favs.
I too have for the first time in my last FO used a turned hem, isn't it neat ? I think I will use this method more often now

A Good Basic Pullover is worth it's weight in gold, especially if it's alpaca. I love the peek of cream inside the seams!
That cabled beauty is A Commitment, in time and money. Don't you love the way I'm just taking over and naming your sweaters?

I love the cabled cardi and it would be very snuggly in the cashmerino. I think bulky cardigans are the ideal 'season transition' wear. I agree with the recommendations to shop around for an alternative yarn and/or price.

The hourglass looks lovely too - I made it in alpaca for my sister, but I still want to make another for myself. Its a great pattern.

The sweater looks great on you. I've never knit anything in the round but may well try after your comments.

I have the pattern for the cables cardigan and it does look lovely, and I like the other cabled cardigan in the pattern book too. I understand it will be costly in the correct yarn but I'm sure it would be a worthwhile investment.

The sweater looks really great! Using different yarn for the turned hem is a great idea!
As for the coat you're dreaming about. It's wonderful! I haven't seen it knitted anywhere either, though. Maybe you could find the yarn on eBay? Of course, it might be difficult to find that amount, though...

The Hourglass sweater looks beautiful and I like the two colors you used too. I like the pattern that you are going to knit too, is that the DB Cashmerino Collection book. We dont have it here yet but I am waiting for it to arrive in Oz. Can you substitute the yarn for something else. The green color does look lovely though.

Wow it's gorgeous. I love the wool you used and the colour. Infact the whole ensemble that you're wearing looks great .........

Might show it to Amber and see if she fancies one (as she has more of the figure for it than I do!).

Very classy sweater your hourglass is. I am sure you will cherish it for years to come. Well done!

Beautiful sweater. Very flattering and the colour is lovely - I esp. like the cuffs. I'm a knitting in the round kind of gal too.

Thanks for dropping by my blog. The pincushion was great fun to make. Now I just need to hire me an assistant to help me cope with all the enquiries about it - how funny! LOL

You look stunning! I love the colour.

As usual your knitting is beautiful and your pictures turn out elegant with a bit of funkiness which I just love. Did you find anyone that has done Ruby? I'm looking at that Habu for some projects during the winter for sweaters to be worn over the summer down here. Cheers!
