Birds of a feather

I found a bird in the house a few weeks ago, a fledgling really, terrified and stuck in the pantry, down on the floor amongst the preserving pans and recycling boxes. I was possibly more terrified than the bird. In order to rescue it I had to go into the pantry, a very small space, with the bird, the bird then attempted to fly up before I could exit, I shrieked like a banshee, as did the little bird.

Suffice to say that I am a little scared of birds in the house, it has happened to me a surprisingly high number of times and perhaps I am not quite as hysterical as I once was. This time I did in fact manage to rescue the bird, eventually. I managed to clap a box over its little body and set it free outside, I'm not certain whose heart was beating faster.

Decorative birds are another matter.

They seem to all around at the moment and I on leafing through
my Moleskine I realised a recurring theme, cuttings and drawings of bird motifs interspersed amongst the pages of the last few months.

So it was time to put some of my thoughts on fabric.

It's to become a pocket I think. More to see soon.

Horrid experience, but at least you found it and managed to rescue it.

Live mice make quite a din when being caught too, I find!
I'd give my eye teeth for a pocket like that.

Glad the birdy adventure ended well.

What a lovely bird you have made! I had to rescue an injured pigeon from the road yesterday ... pick it up and stuff! I was a bit scared of it but not as much as when the cat brings them in!

What an adventure! I'd far rather have a bird in the house than a mouse, or a moth (which is sure to send me into hysterics).

Your bird is so sweet, birds are one of my favourite motifs. :o)

I have a childhood memory of a bird being trapped in our house. I remember my mother, the bird and I were all completely terrified - the bird flew madly everywhere and of course terrified birds make a lot of mess! The clean up operation took a very long time.

On a more pleasant note - your pocket is very pretty - I wonder where it will end up.

Your fabric bird is so lovely. But I know just what you mean about real ones, as I periodically have to get trapped birds out of our fruit cage. Eeek!

You have reminded me of a 'bird experience'. I once heard the distinct sound of a bird trapped in our wood burner's chimney pipe. I called the RSPCA but after two hours of no show, punctuated by sad little scratching sounds, my son and a friend happened to arrive home. Summoning miraculous strength they managed to lift the whole pipe upwards, just enough to release the bird - a beautiful, if frightened, Tawny Owl. My cream lampshades still bear the sooty stain of its fractured escape!

Beautiful applique. I can hardly wait to see what the pocket goes on.

I know how you feel about birds trapped in the house! With the warmer weather, and windows and doors open all day, we frequently have swallows flying in and out of the house. Thankfully, they seem to be able to find their way out again quite quickly, but it does give both me and them a bit of a shock to come face to face!

I would much prefer fabric birds in the house, too. Especially ones as sweet as yours.

Love this little bird-on-the-pocket. As usual your work is so well done and artistic. A joy to enjoy.

I once walked into our dining room to find a pigeon calmly sitting on the fruit bowl - quite surreal. It had fallen down the chimney and must have been a bit dazed because I just opened the doors and it waddled out.

I love the idea of change - for the better - I am surprised that my mother, who is also very superstitious, has never mentioned that.
