Colouring in breakfast

January seems to be taking its time about moving on by. A long, grey, wet, cold month. As the dogs and I squelch our way through the woods each day it seems hard to believe that a month ago all was crisp, the ground frozen rock hard beneath our feet, the trees sharply outlined in frost. I rather miss it. I do not like to feel my boots sink into swampy ground.

I am tired of January.

The dear Technical Advisor came home with market flowers on Saturday and they have been thrilling me ever since.

I have not bought flowers for months. Economising, sigh. But I am considering now that it may be something of a false economy for their effect on my mood is immeasurable.

These flowers have warmed my heart each day since they arrived.

I'm not sure I would have had the courage to buy yellow and purple flowers at the same time but I am very glad my Technical Advisor has no such concerns. The contrasting colours are so very joyful.

I think your technical advisor has very good taste! I bought myself some flowers today just to cheer up the awful grey outside.

What a nice splurge. And even better that they were given to you instead of buying them yourself. My heart swells...

I'm sure it's the sentiment too....flowers at this time of year do cheer the soul....I'm tired of January as well....cold or/and damp.

I have turned my back on flower buying as an economy but seeing yours I can see it was a false economy. It won't be long until I can pick my own, but until then I need the colour and I love the purple and yelllow.

I have a sudden yearning for a massive bunch of purple tulips. Somehow I feel less guilty about splurging on flowers at this time of year - they seem justified.

I seem to remember that last year you got fed up with the gloomy January too (and boy, is this a gloomy one - when did we last see the sun?), and you made something with lemons - lemon drizzle cake?
And now I'm hungry!

flowers are a big cheer up. I love it when we get to daffodil time - nothing more pleasing than vase upon vase of yellow nodding daffodils!

I think flowers should be on prescription as their uplifting properties are often miraculous.

I'm just loving the purple and yellow together.

What a lovely blog! My first visit, Your Etsy shop is very stylish too. I agree that walking the dogs through the mud everyday is a bit much, and then having to wipe their paws off! Roll on Spring. x

I so agree with you, Winter this year seems to be stretching for ever and ever so the only thing for it is to surround ourselves with as much colour as possible :-)

Beautiful flowers and a beautiful blog, it's my first visit and I will be back for sure.
Isn't January clinging on? It seems to have lasted an awful long time, but at last, little by little I feel Spring creeping in - thank you for sharing your photographs and words ~ Lovely!

Lovely flowers! I think one of my favorite things about spring is purpley blue and yellow blooming together. I think I may be due for a flower treat myself, it's been snowing steadily here.

I love January when it is crisp and bright, but these grey days are becoming very dull and yes - soggy.

The flowers are beautiful and certainly very cheery - chin up it is definitely getting lighter.
